Occlusal Orthotics & Equilibration

Maple Glen, PA Dentist

Did you know that your teeth are only supposed to touch for eight minutes out of every day? Hard to believe, right? When our teeth are in contact with each other for longer than the amount of time it takes for us to properly chew our food and swallow, unwanted side effects can become evident.

Unconscious or conscious clenching and grinding of the teeth during the night and/or day can lead to numerous dental and health problems including tooth and/or jaw pain, cracked and worn teeth, muscle and jaw soreness, and even headaches or migraines. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you should contact our office for an occlusal evaluation.

Dr. Lewin will discuss her findings with you during your dental exam if she notices any signs of clenching and/or grinding during this assessment, and together you will review the treatment options available as well as Dr. Lewin’s customized recommendations for your individual needs.

Whether that means fabricating a customized occlusal orthotic, a FDA-approved NTI Appliance, equilibrating and adjusting your bite, or referring you to a trusted orthodontist, massage therapist, or other provider for non-dental therapy options, Dr. Rachel Lewin will explain her recommendations as well as the process to you along with the expected treatment outcomes. Sometimes multiple avenues of treatment are required, and more than one mode of therapy may be indicated depending on the severity of your needs.

If you suspect you may have issues with your bite, contact our office for an appointment for a comprehensive occlusal evaluation.
